Specific terminology work

Would you like to do terminology work efficiently in your company?

And would you like to start straight away and create terminology using your company's existing material? Then this practical seminar is just right for you: Together with our experienced consultant, you create concrete conditions for successful terminology management during the seminar. You are able to choose specific focus areas and to include additional topics. The seminar comprises theoretical and practical components as well as discussions.

  • Speaking the same language: fundamental knowledge about how terminology is created (rules about compound words, abbreviation rules, definition rules, etc.)
  • Definition of rules for the company and creation of a style guide.
  • Content: assessment of existing terminology sources and incorporation into a uniform structure.
  • Term extraction: a possible procedure for obtaining terminology in an ongoing process.
  • Consideration of "problem terminology": Each participant contributes 5-10 terms that currently exist in their company. Together with the consultant, they discuss how to standardise the problem terms.
  • Practical keyword indexing: In order to turn word lists into proper terminology, the keyword indexing logic is checked and altered, as necessary.
  • Digression into technology: terminology in an authoring system; terminology in translation systems: What are the technology options for supporting terminology work and translators?
  • Terminology management in the translation process: how terminology is best translated and approved.
The seminar is aimed at terminology managers, technical writers and translation managers.
The workshop lasts one to two days, depending on the scope and objectives of the training.
